We started Spot On because most accounting firms had stopped doing the things that mattered most: answering the phone, explaining the work, and treating each client like a person rather than a fee.

Why we exist

Our story

After ten years inside larger accounting firms, the same pattern kept showing up: clients wanted a real conversation about their tax, and the system wasn’t set up to give them one. Quotes were vague. Fee shock when the job was finished and returns came back weeks late with no explanation. Spot On Business Advisory was founded to do things differently. The plan is simple — bring a decade of tax experience into a small, sharp firm. Do excellent technical tax work. Charge a fair fixed fee. Treat every client like the most important one. Build something clients want to stay with for the long term.

Three things shape every engagement, whether it’s a single tax return or a multi-entity small business client.

Plain English, every time

If we use a technical term, we explain it. If a decision affects your life, we walk you through the trade-offs. We never want a client to nod along pretending to understand.

Fixed fees, agreed up front

You’ll know what you’re paying before we start work. No “I just need a quick favour” phone calls turning into surprise invoices. If the scope changes, we’ll tell you and re-quote.

Proactive, not reactive

The biggest tax savings happen before 30 June, not after. We reach out throughout the year with reminders, planning ideas, and the occasional heads-up.

A decade of small business tax, SMSF compliance, and individual returns — all distilled into one firm.

Ben is the founder and principal of Spot On Business Advisory. He’s a Chartered Accountant and an ASIC-registered SMSF auditor, with more than ten years of experience helping individuals and small businesses get on top of their tax. That decade has spanned individual returns, multi-entity business groups, and complex SMSF audits. So wherever your situation sits, there’s a good chance Ben’s seen something similar before. He started Spot On to run the kind of firm he always wanted to work at himself — small, sharp, agile, and genuinely useful to clients.
